Why September/October is an Amazing time to visit Cascais

The summer has been rolling at full steam for weeks now and we have enjoyed every minute of it. We’ve made so many new friends from all over the world, we’ve had amazing surf sessions at our summer home of Guincho, we have chilled out beside the pool at our new villa and of course, we have had some fun BBQ nights.

And now after the craziness of summer, we have reached September. It might be easy to stop now and think that it’s all over for the year, but you couldn’t be any further from the truth. September & October are some of the best months of the year to visit Cascais, full of waves, sunshine and lots of fun things to do. For us personally, it’s one of our favourite times of the year. And to show you why, we have compiled some of the best reasons to visit Cascais at this time of the year. Take a read and see if you can resist booking your flight!

Waves, waves, waves!

We are very lucky here in Cascais to have waves to surf all year round. It’s a big part of the reason why we love to live here. However, surfing in September and October has a special feeling to it. After a long summer on our beautiful west coast, we begin to see less wind swell, and more ground swell & off-shore winds. This means we spend most of our time on the South facing Estoril coast which offers us a whole variety of breaks to choose from! This also means returning to one of our favourite beaches, Carcavelos, offering more waves for both our students and instructors.

Perfect balance between the seasons

In Portugal, the sun keeps shining throughout September and the waves get better. The weather stays warm but with less of that intense and uncomfortable summer heat. And at the same time, there is usually very little rain. All of this makes for some of the most enjoyable days and afternoons exploring Cascais and the surrounding areas. Another great thing about this time of year is that Cascais itself is usually not as busy as it is during the summer months, which means no waiting for restaurant tables and an overall more comfortable experience.

Lumina 2018: The Festival of Lights

One of our favourite things to do in Cascais during September is the scintillating Lumina festival in Cascais. Also known as the Festival of Lights, this year it will run from the 21st to the 23rd of September. During these days you can wander around Cascais as it is transformed into the most spectacular city of lights. You can explore over 20 different light art installations sprinkled across the town and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere that makes this event one of our favourite of the year.

SURF OUT!

This September, we also have something special that we are looking forward to. As part of this year’s Feira de Artesanato do Estoril (FIARTIL) we will be taking part in the SURF OUT Portugal event. The Surf Out Portugal will bring together the key players of the surf industry and lovers of the sport and lifestyle in an event that will be held on 15 and 16 September. Stop by and say hi at our the Surf Cascais stand during the event, say hi to team, learn more about what we do, take part in some competitions and enjoy some special surprises. We can’t wait to be part of this special, first time event and we would love for you to come and join us.

These are just 4 reasons to come visit Cascais during the month of September but there are many more. Come and discover them all for yourself and enjoy this amazing part of the year with us.
