Types of guests at our Surf Camp

We receive many emails asking what is the average age of our guests, if there are many solo travelers, any female bookings, etc. Its is very important to feel comfortable in a new environment, trying a new activity/ sport. Being surrounded by people we identify with, makes everything easier and allows you to truly enjoy your Surf Holidays.

You can see through the huge amount of content shared in our social media what the people who visit us look like, do, etc. but we created this blog post so you can have an even better idea if Surf Cascais is the place for you and when will the best time for you to come.

Age

This is probably the most asked question and the hardest to see via our Social Media content. Looking at the numbers, we can tell you that the average age varies during low, mid season and summer time.

Durante the quiet months, we tend to have shorter stays and older people. The average age around this period is 29 years old. This makes completely sense since younger people will be busy with University and people in their late twenties have more flexibility to take holidays or even work remote.

The closer we get to summer, the longer the stays are and younger the people tend to be. However, the average age doesn't change much (27 years old), showing that is pretty balanced all year round. There is also the fact that younger people want holidays with more active social life, including dinners, bbq's, nights out, etc. and this obviously happens more in the warmer months.

Since we opened our new Surf House we were expecting an age different comparing to our main Surf Villa. This happens because we only offer private rooms at the Surf House and slightly older people & couples book this type of accommodation to get full privacy.

It doesn't matter how old you are and when you want to come, you will always feel at home and surrounded by people with the same passion = surfing! Age is a number and we truly believe everyone feels welcome at any time.

Solo travelers vs Group

You tie in a Surf Camp with meeting people thru surfing right? We definitely think that is one of the major highlights! In our accommodations (specially at the Surf Villa) the social part is very present and it's something the guests really look forward when they arrive here. This explains the big amount of solo travelers we receive at any time of the year. If you are coming as a couple or a small group of friends, you will have your own bubble to socialize, but don't forget that there will be a lot of other people ready to meet and share their surf holidays with you ;)

Besides the surfing and beach rides, the Surf Villa has plenty of common areas (big living room with a comfy couch, spacious garden with a pool, fully equipped kitchen to cook delicious meals, etc.) where guests can get to know each other even more. Our family dinners are also a great ice breaker if you are a bit more shy. There will be one big table where you will be sitting next to strangers, ready to shared their experiences so far. The biggest social highlight of the week will be on Thursday, where we have the weekly BBQ dinner. After a few glasses of sangria and almost a week full of surfing, we are sure you will have lot's of fun with your new surf friends!

Regarding the time of the year, we don't see any tendencies of only groups or solo travelers related to specific seasons. What we have found out is that in summer, we tend to have slightly bigger groups (3-5pax) comparing to the calmer months (2-3pax).

Gender (Female vs Male)

Regarding the gender of our guests, the winner is pretty clear: women rule Surf Cascais! According to 2024 statistics, around 65% of the guests were female and 35% male. Now the question is why? Our obvious explanation is that men are too proud to have ''surf lessons'' and learn the proper way. I guess we (yes i'm a guy) think that surfing is an ''easy'' sport and with a few youtube tutorials and a friend that gives a few tips we will eventually get there. Women tend to do things by the book and follow every single step to progression. Do you agree?

Another explanation can be related with our image. Most of our staff is also female (especially the volunteer team) and a big part of our social media is done with the staff. Girls empowered other girls and nothing better than a place full of women to make you feel more comfortable.

To finish, surfing continues to be a huge trend and especially women look for the tanned faces, salty hairs, good vibes and the full surf holiday life style.

Remember that we have a female only dorm, making it even easier for you.

Either you are a girl or a boy, you will find your own species around here and we will make sure you will feel extra welcoming :)

We hope this blog post helps you to understand a little bit better the types of guests that come to Surf Cascais. Images & videos worth more than a thousand words, so don't hesitate to follow us in our Social Media (Youtube, Instagram, TikTok, etc.) or visit us to get the real vibe!
